Two Northeast Ohio agencies awarded $53M in federal New Markets Tax Credits - Cleveland Business News - Northeast Ohio and Cleveland - Crain's Cleveland Business

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, a Democrat from Avon, said the U.S. Treasury Department has awarded a total of $53 million in New Markets Tax Credit allocations to two Northeast Ohio agencies authorized to disburse the valuable federal tax credits.

Mr. Brown said the Cleveland New Markets Investment Fund received $35 million in tax credits and the Northeast Ohio Development Fund in Cleveland received $18 million.

US Steel investing in Lorain, Ohio

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- U.S. Steel Corp. is expanding its Lorain steel tube plant to make pipes for natural gas companies and expanding a Leipsic plant to make steel for automakers.
The company said last year that it was considering the two projects but declined to commit to them at the time. In December, it confirmed the Leipsic project and on Monday, the state announced $200,000 in grants to help fund the Lorain project.
